What is wellness? I am asked this question often and feel my go to definition is a little vague. My definition is “when the mind body spirit are in balance.” Wellness can be different for each person and its definition and what wellness looks like can change with what your needs are in that moment.
I went in search of the actual definition and thought I would share what I found.
According to the National Institute of Wellness defines wellness as “an active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward, a more successful existence.” Choices… Success… sounds good but there must be more to that! The institute goes on to say there are 6 Dimensions of Wellness: emotional, spiritual, emotional, social, physical, and occupational. Now we are getting somewhere! Does that sound right to you? Anything you would add or take away from the list? If you would like to learn more about these dimension click here.
I believe the most important question is what is wellness to you? What aspects of your life would be on your list? Where is your balance? Being well is not necessarily a place to be, but a balance to maintain.
There are people who would love to help you on your journey. The mind body spirit connection is supported by many different fields. And I am proud to collaborate with some of the best in the biz. Therapists, counselors, nutritionists, personal trainers, religious leaders are a few if the folks may be able to help and educate you are you move towards a place of well.
As a MFT and Coach my training is in therapy and wellness. So many times I have met people who are challenged by their beliefs about themselves and what they deserve while they are on the path to wellness. Perhaps people need a little extra emotional support during this lifelong journey. That is where I come in to help!
