EMDR Therapy
Are you ready for some change? As an EMDRIA certified therapist I use EMDR therapy to treat clients for trauma, anxiety, depression, performance enhancement, and whatever else ails! Can moving your eyes really help in therapy? OMG yes!!! I didn’t believe it until I experienced it myself and now I see the positive changes in my clients after just about every session.
How does EMDR work? Well, it is magic. Just Kidding… Researchers believe it works in a similar way as REM sleep. Together myself and the client come up with a “formula” for the targeted trauma or unwanted thought and utilize 8 steps (some of which involves the eye movements, tapping, or audio tones) to help the client’s brain “reprocess” this target.
From my point of view the biggest difference in EMDR and traditional therapy is that the client does not need to discuss the issue in depth in order to see positive results. There is even a way to do EMDR without discussing the issue or traumatic event at all! There are many ways to work through trauma and EMDR is one that has helped many people heal.
I am often contacted by people who already have a therapist that they like very much, but would like to try EMDR. Good news! I do temporary EMDR work (called an adjunct service) with people seeing other therapists for talk therapy. Your therapist and I can even collaborate so they can support the changes made during EMDR therapy.
Often I combine EMDR with Ego State and Somatic interventions depending on client needs.
My training is through EMDR Institute which provides tons of research and information if you would like to read more about EMDR. If this is a therapy that interests you I encourage you to do a little research or contact me for more information. I am very excited about this therapy and how I can use it to help my clients! If you are interested in some great info on this treatment here is an FAQ with A LOT of useful stuff. Happy reading!
