San Clemente Therapist Networking (SCT) Trauma Presentation including EMDR and TF-CBT

I would like to thank the therapists of San Clemente Therapists Networking Group for having me, along with 3 other trauma therapists, speak about our work. Our delightful panel was made up of Chari Morrow LMFT, Ilene Blaisch LCSW SEP, Tana Smith LMFT, and myself.

Here I have collected the resources I mentioned when discussing both EMDR and TF-CBT.

First the ACEs, and subsequent studies on the area of trauma and health can be found on the CDC ACEs website this has much resources and information on the mind body connection and how working through trauma can help our bodies heal.

University of Washington Medicine Center for Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress has an amazing psychoeducation resource page and tons of information on TF-CBT.

The free online TF-CBT training with 10 hour certification, scripts for use in session, training videos and resources can be found at Medical University of South Carolina. This is done in collaboration with Rowan Child Abuse Research Education and Service Institute  and National Child Traumatic Stress Network  both of which have extensive resources on their webpages.

The free online training for Childhood Traumatic Grief including scripts and resources is available here but only after the TF-CBT training above is completed. This training builds on the TF-CBT training and is particularly useful when a child is blaming themselves for the death or loss.

Traumatic Assessment training is a research based way for clinicians to assess for trauma in individuals to determine level of trauma and possible treatment modalities. I have found that most things learned in this training is based in clinical common sense but could be helpful for those just venturing into trauma treatment.

Ilene’s resources on Somatic Experiencing can be found at: David Baldwin’s Trauma Information , Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute , Dr. Peter A. Levine’s Website , and Dr. Stephen Porges Website Ilene can be contacted at 949.910.5654 or ileneblaisch@gmail.com . She can also be found on YouTube here.

Tana’s resources she mentioned on tapping can be found at The Callahan Techniques , Information on TFT , and the San Diego Trainer can be found here . Tana also would like to add these informative points:

1. The goal of TFT is to discharge disturbing energy; for a treatment to be considered successful, a client’s SUD level (“subjective units of distress”) must be lowered to a #1 or #2  within a range of 1 to 10.
2.  According to literature, TFT tapping protocols have an 80% success rate with no reported adverse effects.
3.  TFT is accredited by the National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (NREPP) and has been widely researched in university and scientific studies with documented, fascinating results.

I would also like to give a special thank you to Chari who shared her extensive EMDR experience with us in such an informative and eloquent way.

It was my pleasure to give back to this group who has given me so much! Thank you for your attendance.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you treat your trauma clients. Or if you would prefer I do help clients work through trauma in conjunction with their current therapist.

Thanks and happy online reading/training!
